Free Trial on Bibliographic Citation Software

The IT Users' Subcommittee has set up a Task Force for evaluating plagiarism and bibliographic citation software. The Task Force expects to make a recommendation to the IT Committee in 2005-2006 academic year.

Regarding the bibliographic citation software, free trial on (1) RefWorks and (2) Endnote has been arranged. Details are listed below.

1. RefWorks on CSA
(Trial period: until 30th September 2005)

RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows you to create your own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. You can use these references in writing papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography.

To try on RefWorks, please go to the "User Login" page, and then sign up for an individual account. It allows you to have a free trial until the end of September.

For off-campus access, please login using a "Group Code": RWHKBapU

Note: Please be reminded that data stored in the personal database on RefWorks should be exported to local hard disk before the expiry of free trial period.

2. EndNote

EndNote provides a simple way to search online bibliographic databases and retrieve the references directly into EndNote. It helps to store, manage, and search for bibliographic references.
It also formats citations in your Microsoft Word document.

To try on EndNote, you need to download the trial version from EndNote Web site. It allows you to have one month trial.

You can also try the free trial electronic resources on the library homepage under "What's New" section.
