The Library would like to provide the following updates on the progress of the renovation works underway in the Main Library:
24-Hour Opening of Levels 2 and 3
Following the re-opening of Level 2 to the public and the completion of the needed infrastructure, the Library has re-introduced the provision of a 24-hour study area. Enhancements made during the renovation mean that this area is much larger than before, encompassing both Levels 2 and 3.
24-hour opening of Levels 2 and 3 commenced on 1 Feb 2016 and will continue to the end of the 2nd semester examination period on 18 May 2016. The area will remain open on public holidays.
Installation of New PC Workstations on Level 2
21 new PC workstations will be installed on Level 2 for public use. These are expected to be ready by the end of February 2016.
Provision of A4/A3 Printer/Photocopier on Level 2
A new A4/A3 printer/photocopier is now available in the new photocopier room located on Level 2. Users can send print jobs to this machine using the workstations on Level 3.
Both black & white and colour printing/photocopying is supported. Only Octopus card is accepted as the payment method.
Group Study Rooms on Level 2
The six new group study rooms will become available for reservation online on the Library website after the Chinese New Year holidays. A further announcement on these facilities will be made soon.
Newspaper Collection and Popular Magazines Collection Relocated to Level 2
The current newspapers display shelf and the back issues of newspapers have moved from their temporary home on Level 4 back to Level 2. The back issues are stored on the shelves in the new photocopier room.
The Popular Magazines collection will be housed in the photocopier room on Level 2 adjacent to the newspaper back issue shelves.
Delivery of New Furniture for Level 2
Level 2 re-opened to the public in December 2015 with temporary furniture. The Library is in the process of ordering new furniture intended to enhance collaborative learning and provide additional comfort and convenience to users. The new furniture will include:
Media:scape – Enhances collaboration by allowing you to share your laptop screen with your group
Node chairs – Designed to be mobile and flexible

Renovation of the Multimedia Learning Centre on Level 4
To further enhance the facilities available to Library users, a project to renovate the Multimedia Learning Centre is in the planning stages. It will commence in late May 2016, and is expected to take around 6 months to complete.
Once again, the Library thanks the University community for its patience and forbearance during the renovation period. Major works of this nature inevitably result in inconvenience, but we are looking forward to providing our members with greatly improved facilities.
Should you have any questions about the renovations, please feel free to Ask a Librarian.
