Reminder: User Behaviour Policy

During the run-up to the examination period, there is always heavy demand for the Library's study space. We would therefore like to remind the HKBU community of the Library's User Behaviour Policy. This set of guidelines is intended to help ensure a better study and learning environment, based on the principle of mutual respect.

Two issues have recently become of particular concern:

Occupation of study spaces with personal belongings

  • Users may not occupy study spaces with their personal belongings for prolonged periods. There have been cases where spaces have been occupied for three or more hours while the owner attended class. This type of selfish behaviour is not in keeping with the HKBU spirit.

  • The Library therefore reserves the right to remove items left unattended without prior notice to the owner.

Non-compliance with the Food & Drink Policy

  • For the convenience of users, light snacks and drinks may be consumed in the Academic Commons (i.e. Levels 2 and 3 of the Main Library).

  • On Levels 4-7 of the Main Library, no food is allowed. Only drinks in spill-proof containers may be consumed on these floors.

  • Our Food & Drink Policy in full is available here.

As incidents of undesirable behaviour have increased recently, the Library will be more proactive in ensuring the rules and regulations are followed. The Library would like to ask for everyone's support in maintaining a welcoming and pleasant environment for learning and study.
