About Full Text Finder

Full Text Finder helps you to determine whether a specific journal article is available in the Library collection. It can often link you directly to the online full text of that article. Where it cannot do so, it helps you to check via the Library Catalogue whether or not we subscribe to the journal you need. Should the Library not be able to provide direct access to the article, Full Text Finder can link eligible users to the Library's Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service, where they can request document delivery.

Full Text Finder does not search for articles on a topic. For topic searching, you should make use of OneSearch or one of the Library Databases. Please also note that Full Text Finder only works for English-language articles.

Using Full Text Finder

Enter as much information about the article as you have into the Full Text Finder form, then click on the Search button. A new window will open with the some or all of the following options:

  1. A link to the full text of the article (if available)
  2. Links to search the Library Catalogue for the journal title
  3. A link to the Library's ILL service where eligible users can request the Library to order a copy of the article

The locations of these links are indicated on the screenshot below:

Sometimes Full Text Finder will not provide a link to the full text, and sometimes even if a link is provided, it will not be able to successfully direct you to the full text. This is a result of complexity caused by the different ways that individual vendors provide access to their content.

If multiple full text links are provided, try all of them if the first one does not work. If no working link is provided, click on the link to search the title in the Library Catalogue (the ISSN option is recommended for better accuracy). This will allow you to either:

  1. Find the link to the e-journal (if the Library subscribes to it), where you can browse for the specific article you need
  2. Find the location of the print journal (if the Library has it), so you can view a hard copy of the article
  3. Confirm that the Library does not have print or electronic access to the journal

Eligible user who find that the Library does not have access to a needed journal article may make use of our ILL service to request a copy by using the link provided in Full Text Finder.
