Late Opening of the Main Library (15 July 2019 - 27 July 2019)
Improvement works are currently underway to the Li Promenade on Shaw Campus.

The Estates Office has informed the Library that during the period 15 July to 27 July 2019 (both days inclusive) there will be noisy demolition work on the Li Promenade directly outside the Main Library.

Given that these noisy works will unavoidably impact the work and study environment in the Library, we have coordinated with the Estates Office so that very noisy works will take place only during the morning and early afternoon (before 2:00pm). The Library will not open until noisy works are finished for the day.

Further details are provided below:

Main Library Opening Hours
  • On each Library opening day between 15 July and 27 July the Main Library (including the Academic Commons) will remain closed until 2:00pm
  • The Main Library will then open until the regular closing time under its summer service hours (i.e. 9:00pm on weekdays and 7:00pm on Saturdays)
  • Library opening hours will be displayed on the Library homepage
Main Library entrance arrangements
  • From 15 July to 21 July the main entrance to the Library will be blocked while renovation work to the area immediately outside the entrance is carried out
  • During Library opening hours access to the Library will be via the emergency exit on Li Promenade
  • Directional signage will be provided
  • Please follow the instructions of Library staff and security guards on duty
Enquiry Services
  • While the Library is closed, users may search our FAQs and submit research questions via our online Ask a Librarian service
  • Our librarians will reply to you as soon as possible after resuming duty

Although the noisiest works will be restricted to those times when the Library is closed, noise may still be intermittently generated after 2:00pm on Library opening days.

For those that need to make use of Library facilities while the Main Library is closed, or who need a completely quiet study environment, please consider visiting the Chinese Medicine Library or the Shek Mun Campus Library.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
