Located at the heart of the Shek Mun Campus Library (SMCL), the Idea Space is an open and versatile area designed to support a wide range of learning events, information talks, exhibitions, workshops, and other interactive activities. It serves as a hub for innovation, collaboration and creativity for the campus community.
With flexible furniture arrangements and AV equipment available, the Idea Space can be customized to suit the needs of your event—whether it’s a group presentation, a display of student work, a seminar, or a creative showcase. Our library team is here to support you in creating an engaging and successful event experience.

General Guidelines for Booking
Eligible Users
The Idea Space can be reserved by HKBU/SCE teaching or administrative staff.
Booking Requests
Please submit your booking request at least 14 working days in advance through our online form. Ad-hoc requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to venue availability and staff capacity.
Requests will be handled on a first-come-first-served basis.
Venue Capacity
The Idea Space can accommodate approximately 40 people, with some flexibility depending on the setup.
Venue Availability
The Idea Space is available for booking throughout the year. However, the Library reserves the right to limit its use to quiet or non-disruptive activities, particularly during peak periods such as examination weeks.
Setup and Equipment
Library furniture and AV equipment are available upon request. Users are responsible for the physical arrangement and setup of furniture. If additional furniture/equipment is required from other units, please arrange for this separately and in advance.
Users are also responsible for cleaning up after their event and returning the venue to its original state.
Booking Period
Users can submit requests according to the length of their event. For long-term activities such as exhibitions, the maximum booking period for the Idea Space is 28 consecutive days. Please also allow sufficient time for setup and clean-up within your booking period.
Conduct of Users
- Keep the venue neat and tidy.
- Take good care of the computing equipment.
- Unattended items left for an extended period of time may be removed by library staff without prior notice.
- Take note of the Library’s guidelines for the Conduct of Users, which also apply to the Idea Space.
Cancellations
If you need to cancel or modify your booking, please contact SMCL staff as early as possible.
