Computer tools for English language teaching and learning

This workshop is primarily designed for students interested in a career in English language teaching or part-time jobs of teaching English to students. It first presents a set of computer tools for vocabulary learning including vocabulary.com, morewords.com, snappywords.com and WordNet, a free lexical database. It then makes the case for using voice recognition technologies (e.g. Otter.ai) for teaching oral English. At last, it features BNCweb, an online corpus that supports the search for advanced grammatical structures. Social editor Google docs and collaborative tool Padlet will be used to run this workshop to illustrate their pedagogical potential.
