Records of the Maritime Customs Service of China (1854-1949)
The Maritime Customs Service of China (MCS) was an international bureaucracy under the control of successive Chinese central governments from its founding in 1854 until January 1950. As one of the most important institutions in China during this period, its records provide insights into trade, communications, and international affairs during the late Qing and Republican periods.
This primary source collection provides access to the digitized records of the MCS, including official correspondence, despatches, reports, memoranda, and private and confidential letters.
Trial access will expire on 30 September 2020.
