New Classification Scheme for New Titles
In order to facilitate the interfiling of Chinese and English books in the same collection, the Library has adopted Library of Congress classification (LC) for titles* received since May 2019.
With effect from 3 June 2019, books classified using LC will be housed at the following locations:
Location of LC-classified items | Timeline
Main Library | Level 2^ | From 3 Jun to late August 2019 |
Level 4 | Late August 2019 onwards
Chinese Medicine Library | 3 Jun 2019 onwards
Shek Mun Campus Library | 3 Jun 2019 onwards |
This initiative is the Library’s first step towards building an integrated library collection using one single classification scheme (LC) for the easy discovery of Chinese and English resources. For the time being, the classification and locations of items received prior to May 2019 will remain unchanged until the launch of retrospective classification projects.
LC-classified items have the prefix “LC” in square brackets before their call numbers. For example:
Physical signage has been posted to guide users to the location of items. Please approach duty staff at our User Services Counters for assistance in locating Library materials.
