01 Apr 2020

In response to the latest developments of the COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong, the Library’s special arrangements have been updated as follows:

1. Lending Services

Counter services

The Main Library will open with reduced opening hours and no counter services. Please check the Library homepage for the latest opening hours.

A self-checkout service is provided at the Main Library for all loanable materials on the shelves, including multimedia materials.

Service availability

The following services are suspended until further notice:

  • HKALL
  • Physical Course Readings
  • Book paging requests
  • Library card applications

If you have urgent need of services normally provided at the counter, please contact the Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Section by email (libcir@hkbu.edu.hk) and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Interlibrary Loan Service

Interlibrary Loan service for books is temporarily suspended while that for electronic articles is available, with expected delay in the service delivery given the fact that partial / complete suspension of interlibrary loan service is in place at many local and overseas libraries.

Waiving of overdue fines

No overdue fines will be charged for all materials due on or after 25 Jan 2020 until further notice. This applies to all library materials, including HKBU, HKALL, and course readings materials.

Pickup due date for reserved materials:

Reserved materials will be held until further notice.

2. Research Help

In response to the extended suspension of face-to-face classes, the Library has set up a Virtual Information Desk via Zoom, through which all patrons can get immediate research assistance from the librarian on duty. Service hours are Mon-Fri 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., excluding public holidays.

You can also request research help via our other established online channels:

Response times will be in line with our normal service pledge (i.e. initial response within 24 hours, except on Friday evenings and weekends).

For in-depth research questions, you may request an online research consultation with a professional librarian.
