Important Updates on CollabTech Commons (formerly Multimedia Learning Centre)

We wish to inform the HKBU community of some upcoming changes and temporary disruptions on Level 4 of the Main Library.

The former Multimedia Learning Centre (MLC) has been gradually converted into the CollabTech Commons (CTC), a new space equipped with 3D printers, 3D scanners, VR headsets, a laser engraver/cutter, a large-format printer, a large-format cutting plotter, and high-performing PCs with prototyping software at the Tech Stations. While this upgrade aims to better support creative and hands-on learning, it means the previous Multimedia Stations setup has been replaced. To retain essential audio-visual resources, two sets of AV equipment (TV, Blu-ray player, CD player, and cassette player) have been relocated to the computer clusters facing the counter.

Also, an official opening ceremony for the CollabTech Commons is scheduled for the afternoon of Monday, 23 February 2026. The full day—including morning preparations—will involve considerable noise, movement of people and equipment, setup activities, and general disturbance in the area.

Although the Postgraduate Study Rooms and the open study spaces will remain open for use, CTC will not be suitable for quiet study, focused work, or any noise-sensitive activities on that day (Feb 23). We strongly advise students planning quiet study to choose alternative locations in the Library during this period.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and patience as we finalise this important enhancement to support transdisciplinary education at HKBU. For updates on the CollabTech Commons, including future access, booking details, and guidelines, please check the Library website or contact the Digital Initiatives and Research Cluster team at libms@hkbu.edu.hk or lib-ctc@hkbu.edu.hk.
