“Under the Cross: Christianity and Hong Kong society” Exhibition

Missionaries from Protestant missions in the West reached Hong Kong at the very early days of its modern history, planning to use this tiny fishing village as a base to spread the gospel in China. At the same time though, some started evangelistic work here, and built schools and institutions like orphanages. After over a century, Christianity is now the largest religion in Hong Kong, and church organizations provide a wide variety of medical, educational and social services.

The special collection of “Archives on the History of Christianity in China” documents this piece of history and
its development today. This exhibition draws heavily on this special collection.
