The Architecture of Motion
Discover the hidden world behind digital characters in The Architecture of Motion.
Every movement of a digital character, from a simple shrug to a heavy footstep, is the result of art, anatomy, and engineering working in harmony. This exhibition pulls back the curtain to reveal the invisible skeleton and mechanisms beneath the surface.
Featuring the semester’s work from the Character Effects & Rigging course, The Architecture of Motion showcases a dual narrative: the creative vision behind expressive character design and the precise technical craftsmanship of rigging. While the audience usually only sees the final performance, this exhibition spotlights the science and engineering of rigging — the topology of a digital model, the delicate process of defining how skin stretches and deforms around joints, the implementation of kinematic systems to automate movement, and the creation of a control rig that allows animators to manipulate a complex system with ease and precision.
We warmly invite you to join us at the Opening Event on June 2, 2026, where you can explore the hidden architecture that brings digital characters to life and celebrate students’ work. Come explore the hidden architecture that brings digital characters to life.
