1. Editor’s Guide to Getting Published

Getting tips on the criteria governing the paper selections of Springer Nature and advice for authors on preparing and submitting articles.

Dr. Mimmi MONONEN
(Senior Editor, Nature Communications)

Dr. Mononen joined Nature Communications in September 2022. She received her PhD from Karolinska Institutet, where she studied early human heart development using single-cell RNA sequencing. She continued using single-cell technologies during her postdoc at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where she worked on cancer stem cells. Mimmi handles manuscripts relating to single-cell biology.

(Assistant Professor, Academy of Wellness and Human Development, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, HKBU)

Professor Chan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at Hong Kong Baptist University. He is a Chartered Psychologist and a Registered Social Worker. His research focuses on promoting social equality and mental health for the LGBTQ community. His editorial roles include the following:

3. From Research Idea to First Publication: Building Confidence for Your First Scholarly Output

This session focuses on the practical preparation stage before journal submission, how early-career researchers can move from a research idea to a manuscript-ready structure, it will also highlight common mistakes first-time authors should avoid, and explaining more broadly about how to consider article type, publication pathway, research integrity issues authors should address before submission.

Ms. Hao is the Founder and Director of Every Author Publishing Consultancy Services Limited, supporting early career researchers and first-time authors in scholarly publishing, publication strategy, peer review literacy, and research integrity. With over 12 years of experience in academic publishing, author development, she is passionate about making scholarly communication more transparent, practical and accessible for young researchers.

She is also the initiator of the “Every Author First Publication Scholarship”, which aims to recognise first scholarly outputs as an important milestone in early researcher development and to encourage responsible, confident and discipline-sensitive publishing practice.
