Writing for the Public- How to have your voice heard on government policies

In this workshop, the speaker introduces a set of tools that Hong Kong residents can use to hold the government accountable for the decisions they make on various social issues and public affairs. Evoking the Code on Access to Information, students will learn to ask critical questions to collect information about government decisions. Through the Legislative Council Redress system, students can also raise their concerns to the Legco members and upload their letters to the Legco websites. Consolidating their arguments on social affairs, students could publish letters to the editor in the South China Morning Post and engage more members of the public on these issues in social media. The participants of the workshop will learn a set of tools empowering them to participate in the conversations about problems facing our city.

Facilitator: Dr. Simon Wang (Language Centre)
